From the author of the Algonquin Quest series comes the story of a secret, female-led group that has sought justice for Indigenous women and children for centuries. In 1959, an Indigenous boy sits in a café. While he waits for his order, an Indigenous man and woman enter the restaurant. Posing as customers, they attack the owner and cut off his thumbs — retribution for abusing his staff members. This is the Elk Whistle Warrior Society, an organized and relentless group that combines traditional practices with modern methods to fulfill its mission of vigilante justice for Indigenous women and girls.Decades later, Society representative Cody Maracle (a.k.a. Raven) meets with the prime minister and agrees to work with the government. Raven and her vast network, along with former RCMP officer Blackbird, travel throughout Turtle Island to capture kidnappers, human traffickers, and murderers. Part adventure story, part social commentary, The Elk Whistle Warrior Society provides a captivating portrayal of the strength, leadership, and determination of Indigenous women.
