Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claims that 11 oil tankers caught fire in just nine days, with some reportedly sinking. The tankers exploded after striking naval mines while attempting to navigate an unauthorised route through the strategic waterway. One of the vessels was reportedly a supertanker, which caught fire following a powerful explosion.The IRGC alleges that both vessels had switched off their navigation and identification systems to evade detection and secretly cross the Strait of Hormuz. It says both vessels were subsequently immobilised.
