The panel was formed after weeks of student protests over the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak forced union minister Dharmendra Pradhan to step down. Announcing the panel in a video message, PM Modi said India's examination system needs to be "reliable," "transparent" and built on the "technology", while also confirming that stricter laws to punish exam fraud would be taken up in Parliament.
