The indie economy is very important to our culture right now, but also quite fragile. At Substack, we are on the front lines of the battle. This is the place where readers and writers work together to counter the collapse happening now in institutional culture. If alternative platforms start shrinking and faltering, we will be in very bad shape indeed.
