Weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu created history and gave India its first gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after winning women's 48 kg title in Glasgow on Sunday. The 31-year-old athlete is known for her commitment and dedication and has previously claimed gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022, as well as at the World Weightlifting Championships in 2017. When it comes to weightlifting fitness and strength training along with balanced diet plays a jey role. While people often think that weightlifters eat a lot, the gold medalist once cleared it during an interview with The Lallantop. She said, “Sabko lagta hai ki weightlifters hain, toh bahut zyada khaate hongey, par hum itna nahi khaate… kyunki weight control karke rakhna padta hai.” On the contrary, athletes have a strict diet plan to ensure they don’t gain unnecessary weight. “Sab players ka alag diet hota hai, boxers ka, athletes ka…,” Chanu pointed out during the interview.Talking about her personal diet, she said, “Mai breakfast mei leti hu, boiled egg, boiled chana, boiled mushroom…hum bread bhi nahi le sakte, hum doodh bhi nahi le sakte, kyunki weight maintain karna hota hai,” she revealed.
