The Delhi government has announced a series of austerity measures aimed at promoting fuel conservation and energy efficiency in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push amid global uncertainty over fuel dependence. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the government has reduced the petrol and diesel quota for official vehicles of officers by 20 per cent. Ministers and officials have been directed to use the Delhi Metro every Monday, which will be observed as ‘Metro Monday’. The government will also observe a weekly ‘No Vehicle Day’ voluntarily. No new government vehicles will be purchased for the next six months, while work-from-home has been encouraged for two days a week wherever feasible. In a symbolic move, the chief minister also reduced her own motorcade by nearly 60 per cent.
