Researchers tracking 4,581 animals across 37 species in the US found that more than 65% changed how they used space when humans were nearby. The Science study used animal GPS records and anonymised cellphone data during COVID-19 lockdowns to separate the impact of people from permanent landscape changes, finding that species responded differently and were often more sensitive to humans in less-developed areas.
