The Supreme Court has agreed to examine whether the acquittal of 22 accused in the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh alleged fake encounter case requires scrutiny, particularly after 92 of 210 prosecution witnesses turned hostile. A bench headed by CJI Surya Kant sought the CBIs response and asked for statements of key witnesses, while making it clear that it would not revisit Amit Shahs discharge, which had become final in 2016.
