Sen. Eric Schmitt’s attempt to challenge former special counsel Jack Smith over his whereabouts in February 2024 took an unexpected turn after a basketball mix-up. Schmitt questioned Smith about an Atlanta Hawks game, but Smith said he had attended an Iowa Hawkeyes women’s game in Maryland featuring Caitlin Clark. Sen. Amy Klobuchar then highlighted the apparent confusion between the Hawks and Hawkeyes, turning the exchange into a viral Senate hearing moment.
