IN November 2013, Goa hosted a festival of ideas. Tehelka magazine organised it. Tarun Tejpal was its Editor-in-Chief. A young woman journalist worked on his staff. She was a friend of his daughter. Robert De Niro was the star guest. On the night of November 7, the editor and the journalist escorted De Niro to his suite at the Grand Hyatt. They rode down together in a guest lift. The ride lasted about two minutes. The lift travelled two storeys. The next night, they rode the same lift again.
