CBI Director Praveen Sood gets one-year extension - India Today
The Central Bureau of Investigation Director has received a one-year extension, continuing in the role until May next year. The decision was made by a high-power committee comprising the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice of India, and the Leader of Opposition. During the selection meeting, the Leader of Opposition expressed disagreement with the procedure and issued a dissenting note before walking out. The extension marks the second time the current Director's tenure has been prolonged, following an initial two-year appointment in May 2023 and a subsequent one-year extension in 2025. The decision to grant another extension was based on the Director's clean record over the past three years and the absence of controversies regarding the functioning of the premier central agency. Prior to heading the central agency, the official served as the Director General of Police in Karnataka. The committee reviewed a list of eligible officers before finalizing the extension for the 1986 batch officer.
