The Jan Vishwas motor law changes, effective from August 15, will allow many minor and technical traffic offences to be settled through simplified compounding instead of criminal proceedings. Lawyers have welcomed the reduction in court burden but warned that road safety, victims’ rights, and safeguards against misuse by enforcement authorities must not be compromised.
