Love in the Himalayas & the struggle for freedom - The Tribune
As India enters her 80th year of Independence, I think of the multiple ways in which we first got to learn about the nationalist struggle for freedom. From history lessons and yearly celebrations in schools to the numerous symbolic gestures in speech and image permeating our everyday life, the idea of Independence strongly channelised our collective identity as a nation’s citizenry. In today’s time, social media, so often riding on the highs of nostalgia, does a remarkable job of keeping these memories alive by regurgitating the riveting archival material from the past every now and then.
