In 1780, a Scottish inventor created a copier hundreds of years before modern-day equipment came into existence. James Watt patented a letter copying press that allowed people to make copies of written letters. The machine used pressure, special paper and ink to transfer writing onto another thin sheet without rewriting the original document.
