A political showdown is unfolding in Mississippi after Republican Olive Branch Mayor Ken Adams refused to follow President Donald Trump’s directive to lower American flags to half-staff following Dolly Parton’s death at age 80. While Trump and Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves called for flags to be lowered for one week in honor of the country music icon, Adams defended his decision, saying the gesture should be reserved for military heroes, fallen first responders, presidents, major national leaders and events of tremendous national significance.
