Brazen luggage thief who stole bags from unsuspecting passengers | News | Independent TV

A man caught on CCTV stealing unsuspecting train passengers’ luggage has been jailed following a string of crimes. Footage shows Faysal Benoumechiara approaching a luggage rack and picking up bags, before exiting the train. Inner London Crown Court heard on Friday (19 June) how Benoumechiara carried out similar thefts on five separate occasions. Benoumechiara, 27, of Bellot Street in Greenwich, was sentenced to two years and three months having previously pleaded guilty to five counts of theft which took place over an 11-month period. Abdel Aitkebir and Medhi Fatih, who worked with Benoumechiara “in an organised fashion to target everyday commuters and steal their valuables”, were also sentenced on Friday. The pair were caught on CCTV last October scouting out the area at St Pancras Station when they took advantage of a distracted driver helping a family into his taxi and stole £600,000 worth of valuables. Aitkebir, 35, and Fatih, 41, both of no fixed address have been sentenced to two years and three months, two years and six months, and two years four months, respectively.
