PUNJAB has passed through years of violence, uncertainty and economic strain, but it has also repeatedly shown an extraordinary capacity to recover. I have seen the state in difficult times and in moments of great confidence. That experience has taught me one enduring lesson: Punjab cannot be secured by dividing its people and it cannot prosper by keeping them trapped in the politics of fear and persistent hopelessness.
