Tomato growers are feeling the pinch of low market prices even as the rising cost of pesticides has increased the production cost manifold. Growers visiting the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) in Solan to sell their produce rue that many pesticides available in the market are proving ineffective. Pal Singh Thakur, a grower, says, “Pesticides supplied by a Mumbai-based company have proved ineffective against pests such as whitefly and mites, which have infested vegetable crops like tomato, cucumber and beans.”
