THERE is something satisfying about threatening a powerful technology company with expulsion. Meta has been accused of allowing disinformation, scams, deepfakes, online abuse and violent content to spread through Facebook. Its apparent inability to respond quickly to harmful material, including the livestream of the fatal Ateneo de Zamboanga U niversity shooting, understandably provoked public anger. The Department of Information and Communications Technology has identified slow content removal and inadequate identity verification as major concerns. It says blocking Facebook should be a last resort.
