Room spinning, ears feeling blocked and hearing fading? Why these vertigo symptoms should not be ignored
A sudden dizzy spell is easy to dismiss. It may be blamed on tiredness, dehydration, weakness or even skipping a meal. But dizziness becomes more important to investigate when the room seems to spin and the ear also feels blocked, rings or suddenly hears differently. That combination can point towards the inner ear, an area that quietly controls two things at once: hearing and balance. Ménière’s disease is one possible cause, but it is far from the only one. Labyrinthitis, vestibular migraine and some middle-ear problems can also produce overlapping symptoms.“Dizziness is a very broad term, and not every episode of dizziness is actually vertigo,” explained Dr Ananth Chintapalli, Sr. Consultant - Advanced ENT, Head & Neck Surgery & Skull Base Surgery, Arete Hospitals.
