Congress MP and Public Accounts Committee Chairman KC Venugopal has questioned the functioning of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) examining the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, alleging that there had been no meaningful consultation with stakeholders. He has also urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to ensure a comprehensive scrutiny before the legislation is taken up in Parliament.In a letter to Birla, Venugopal said the Bill, introduced in the Lok Sabha on March 25, was referred to a 31-member JPC on August 12 with the stated purpose of obtaining inputs from every stakeholder and bringing before Parliament a “well-considered and flawless Bill”. The official Digital Sansad records confirm the Bill was referred to the JPC on August 12.
