NCB Report Warns Of Nitazenes, Myanmar Route; Flags Telegram As Key Hub For Drug Ads - Times of India Videos
The Narcotics Control Bureau's Annual Report 2025 has identified Telegram as a major platform for drug-related advertising, alongside WhatsApp and Signal. The report says public Telegram channels are being used to promote narcotics with product listings, prices and delivery details, making illegal drug trade more accessible. It also highlights challenges for enforcement agencies due to encrypted communication, auto-deleting messages and cryptocurrency-based transactions. The report warns of a growing drug trafficking corridor from Myanmar into India's Northeast, linking narcotics smuggling with arms trafficking and terror financing. It further flags emerging threats from highly potent synthetic opioids known as nitazenes and record global cocaine production. According to the NCB, law enforcement agencies registered over 1.48 lakh drug cases and seized more than 1,200 tonnes of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
