One hundred years ago this week, about 500 people gathered at La Scala Theatre on O’Connell Street in Dublin, where Penneys now stands, for the formal public launch of Fianna Fáil. It would become one of the most remarkable democratic political organisations in the world; Fianna Fáil has governed Ireland for two-thirds of the last 100 years.
