Iraq Declares New Security Phase As US-Led Coalition Mission Against ISIS Ends - Times of India Videos
Iraq has declared a new phase in its security strategy as the US-led international coalition mission against ISIS comes to an end. Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaydi said Iraq’s armed forces had reorganised their command structures, mobilised resources and unified their efforts during years of fighting terrorism. He credited the Joint Operations Command with coordinating intelligence, planning and military operations throughout the campaign against ISIS. The end of the coalition mission marks a major shift for Iraq after years of foreign military involvement in the country. Iraqi forces are now expected to take primary responsibility for national security as the international military presence winds down. The transition comes more than a decade after the US-led coalition began operations against ISIS, following the militant group's rapid expansion across Iraq and Syria.
