Western Railway has identified around 9,500 illegal encroachments along the Churchgate–Virar suburban corridor and plans phased removal of remaining structures. Officials said around 500 structures were cleared during a drive at Bandra’s Garib Nagar. The railway stated that removing encroachments will improve safety, maintenance work and infrastructure development on the busy suburban route.
