The success of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is closely tied to the broader economics of the media business and its ability to reach audiences at scale, JioStar Vice Chairman Uday Shankar said on Friday, highlighting the financial challenges facing both sports and traditional media.Speaking at the ET World Leaders Forum in New Delhi, Shankar said sports has been a strong investment for JioStar but remains financially challenging, while the media industry is under pressure as advertising models come under strain globally.The session, titled "From Broadcast to a Broader Ecosystem: The New Economics of Media and Sport", was a fireside chat between Shankar and Satyan Gajwani, CEO, Times Internet, The Times of India Group.
