Fairford Terror Probe Deepens: Five Suspects Out On Bail, Police Explore Foreign Links - Times of India Videos
Five men arrested near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire have been released on police bail following extensive interviews and enquiries, but British counterterrorism authorities say the investigation is continuing. The men, reportedly British nationals from London in their early to mid-20s, were detained after police responded to reports involving three suspicious vehicles travelling towards the US military facility. Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor, the head of UK counterterrorism policing, said the suspects remain under stringent conditions covering their movement and contact with others. Police are pursuing multiple lines of inquiry and have not publicly established a motive. Taylor also said investigators are considering whether the incident could involve individuals or proxies knowingly or unknowingly acting on behalf of a foreign state. That has fuelled questions over a possible Iranian connection because of RAF Fairford’s role in supporting US military operations. Iran, however, has categorically rejected any involvement, with its embassy in London calling suggestions linking Tehran to the arrests “unfounded and malicious.” For now, investigators have not established who or what the suspects were targeting, what they may have been planning, or whether the incident forms part of a wider network.
