The Solan Municipal Corporation(MC) has started disconnecting water connections of chronic defaulters who have not paid their bills for years together. As many as 1,383 consumers have not paid their water bills amounting to Rs 3.20 crore for several years. The situation has come to such a pass that some well-off consumers, including traders, private schools as well as realtors, have Rs 5 lakh as pending bills. The campaign initiated about a week ago has bore results as the civic body has managed to collect Rs 83.34 lakh. It also snapped 97 water connections. The defaulters were earlier served notices and granted an opportunity to pay their dues. Assistant Engineer, Solan Municipal Corporation, Alpana Thakur said, “The campaign to recover pending water dues enabled the civic body to collect Rs 83.34 lakh. It also snapped 97 water connections while the campaign is continuing.”
