Even the CEOs of OpenAI and Anthropic are starting to act cautiously. See their exchange from earlier today (below). The only people now who don’t understand what’s happening are the slop purveyors themselves, who will defend AI in every instance—because they’re afraid somebody will take away their chatbot. And they can’t live without it. These are the same people who are churning out garbage articles, crappy songs, and slop social media posts, meanwhile pretending that this is their original work. (Few are fooled.) Some of them are making even worse use of AI, relying on it for scamming, spamming, and other illegal activities. Because I’m often critical of AI, I hear from these true believers constantly. It’s like a cult. They are now the most zealous defenders of this dangerous technology. But they support it for the worst possible reasons. My advice is that you should trust the folks who saw this coming more than a year ago. Everything is playing out according to what the outsiders and skeptics anticipated. The insiders are now part of the backlash—but that would have never happened if independent thinkers had not lead the charge. You know who they are—many of them are here on Substack. They deserve our thanks.
