Ronald Reagan can be blamed a lot for Americas current state and I’m being genuine with this claim too. Reagan is a legitimate focal point for a lot of what America looks like today, but he’s not the sole author. When we talking about the neoliberal turn… tax cuts, deregulation, financialization, weakened unions, debt-financed government, mass incarceration, and racialized “welfare” politics..Reagan was a central architect. But “blamed a lot” isn’t “blamed alone.” Globalization, technology, deindustrialization, Nixon/Carter-era deregulation, Federal Reserve policy, Congress, and later presidents all matter. Reagan also has defenders: the Cold War endgame, economic recovery from stagflation, tax simplification, and the 1986 immigration amnesty. So: Reagan is a major cause of the current political-economic order, especially if you dislike inequality, corporate power, weak unions, mass incarceration, and distrust of government, but he’s one pivotal node in a longer, bipartisan story—not the only one.
