Annamalai opens up on quitting BJP at India Today Tamil Nadu Roundtable | Video - India Today
Speaking at the India Today Roundtable, former Tamil Nadu BJP chief K. Annamalai discussed his decision to part ways with the party and launch his grassroots movement, 'We the Leaders'. Annamalai stated that the BJP's decision-making has become excessively Delhi-centric and criticized the concentration of major national projects in Gujarat. Reflecting on the state's political landscape, he assessed the first 100 days of Chief Minister Vijay's TVK government, praising its anti-corruption stance while noting a current lack of long-term vision. He asserted that 'We the Leaders' aims to reach 50 lakh volunteers before transitioning into a political party, emphasizing grassroots activism and social work over conventional electoral spending. Furthermore, Annamalai claimed there is no long-term future for traditional Dravidian parties like the DMK and AIADMK in Tamil Nadu unless they undergo significant internal re-engineering and abandon dynastic politics.
