ONE of the great ironies of the Christian life is that those who profess the strongest belief in God’s sovereign will are sometimes the very people who neglect planning their own lives. They sincerely affirm that God has a purpose for everything and that His will shall ultimately prevail, yet they often approach life without clear direction, careful stewardship or intentional preparation. Scripture presents no such contradiction. The God who ordains the future also commands His covenant people to prepare for it. Confidence in God’s sovereignty never diminishes man’s responsibility; it establishes it.
