Iranian security forces have foiled an alleged weapons smuggling attempt near the country's border with Iraq, seizing 20 Kalashnikov rifles and 40 ammunition magazines. The confrontation reportedly took place near Marivan in Iran's Kurdistan province, where an armed group attempting to transport weapons across the border clashed with Iranian border guards before fleeing. Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Hatami said security forces had received intelligence about the suspected shipment and tracked the group to its entry point. The identities of the armed men, their alleged backers and their intended destination remain unclear. Iranian authorities have not confirmed any casualties in the exchange of fire.
