A Ukrainian drone reportedly struck only metres from a reactor compartment at the Russian-controlled Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, according to Rosatom chief Alexey Likhachev. He said the aircraft hit a personnel gallery connecting the facility’s six reactor units near Unit Three. The drone did not explode, no critical nuclear equipment was damaged and radiation levels reportedly remained unchanged. Rosatom has also accused Ukrainian forces of attempting to target the plant’s dry spent-fuel storage facility and civilian infrastructure in nearby Energodar. Ukraine’s position on the latest allegation was not included, while the IAEA has generally avoided assigning responsibility for individual incidents. Although all six reactors remain in cold shutdown, they still require dependable electricity and water for essential cooling and safety systems. The latest incident underscores how little distance now separates routine drone warfare from a potential nuclear emergency. Watch.
