Actor Bill Murray gatecrashed a live interview on CNBC to ask Kevin Hassett to pretend his dog had died in an attempt to get him to stop smiling. Squawk Box hosts Joe Kernan and Becky Quick were interviewing the National Economic Council director on Monday (November 2) when Murray returned to set after appearing in an earlier segment about his new golf travel show A Course Called Ireland. “ I would regret it if I didn't take this opportunity,” said the Groundhog Day star, “could you just say the words, ‘My dog just died’? I want to see what happens to your smile.” Hassett, who last week called the affordability crisis “a myth” and frequently paints an unduly rosy picture of the economy on CNBC, duly obliged before Kernan quickly pivoted to a question about Hassett’s favorite Murray movie.
