Kangra airport expansion: Gaggal families demand fair compensation for acquired land - The Tribune

Around 70 to 80 families of Gaggal panchayat in Kangra, which are facing displacement due to the proposed expansion of the Kangra airport, have urged the state government for fair compensation and proper rehabilitation. The affected families, led by Gaggal panchayat pradhan Damini Katoch, on Friday met with Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa and submitted a memorandum to him stating that they had been living in the area for the past 60 to 70 years and the government had allotted land to them. Damini raised the concerns of the affected families with the Deputy Commissioner. She said that they had been living in the Gaggal panchayat area for decades and were now facing uncertainty over their homes and land because of the airport expansion project. She added that they feared that they would be displaced without being paid adequate compensation and without being rehabilitated and they would be left without any means to build new homes.
