Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to order registration of an FIR under the SC/ST Act over the alleged “shuddhikaran” of the stage used by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge for a rally in Uttarakhand’s Haldwani area. She also questioned his silence even 20 days after the incident.Her intervention came a day after Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi publicly raised the issue and demanded action, putting the Congress’s top leadership behind an attempt to turn the Haldwani episode into a larger political battle over alleged untouchability and discrimination against Dalits.
