New Delhi witnessed a stark contrast between deserted streets and defiant protests as heavy security measures transformed the capital into a high-security zone. Connaught Place, usually bustling with activity, appeared eerily silent, while barricades, metro restrictions and police deployments disrupted daily life. The protests, organised by the Cockroach Janta Party and opposition groups, demanded Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged electoral roll irregularities. As demonstrations spread towards Bangla Sahib Gurudwara and Jantar Mantar, police detained protesters, including women, amid tense scenes. Images from Delhi and Mumbai captured a city gripped by political dissent, heightened security and uncertainty over what comes next.
