The CPM on Tuesday expressed concern over the growing economic crisis in the state and urged the government to roll back the hike in taxes and cess as well as the fees of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU). Sanjay Chauhan, state secretary of the CPM, while addressing a two-day meeting of the state committee of the party, said that the government debt was rising while the Central Government was cutting financial grants and assistance being provided to Himachal Pradesh. “As a result, services like education, healthcare, drinking water and electricity in the state are crippling while the state government is withdrawing from public services and is imposing more taxes and cess on people,” he alleged.
