New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has renewed his call for a shift in America's policy toward Israel following the Democrats' sweeping victories in the 2026 US midterm elections. Asked what changes he wanted Congress to pursue regarding Israel, Mamdani called for compliance with international law and greater emphasis on humanity. Declaring that Americans had elected a new generation of leaders with a mandate to "build, not bomb," Mamdani's remarks come against the backdrop of his longstanding opposition to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Mamdani previously said he would seek Netanyahu's arrest if he visited New York, citing the International Criminal Court's arrest warrant. Could the Democratic midterm victories strengthen demands for a tougher US stance toward Israel?
