Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper have been immortalised with bronze statues in Clear Lake, Iowa, honouring the rock ’n’ roll legends nearly seven decades after their tragic deaths. Ritchie’s sister Connie Valens joined the tribute and reflected on the emotional moment, saying having her brother in “physical form” alongside Holly and The Big Bopper was “unspeakable joy.” The three musicians performed their final show at the Surf Ballroom on February 2, 1959, before dying in a plane crash the following day, a tragedy remembered as “The Day the Music Died.”
