On December 18, 2025, the Gulf Research Program (GRP) of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering,and Medicine convened a one-day workshop to explore opportunities, challenges, and research needs related to energy safety, security, and risk management across the Gulf region's offshore energy ecosystem and on the United States' outer continental shelf. This workshop focused on three topics, which were discussed in separate sessions: (1) risk management and preparedness, (2) emerging energy technologies and systems, and (3) workforce development. This Proceedings of a Workshop-in Brief provides a high-level summary of the presentations and post-presentation discussions organized by workshop session.
