Donald Trump spoke directly with Vladimir Putin after Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner completed talks in Moscow and Kyiv. According to the Kremlin, the two presidents compared the results of the shuttle mission during a one-hour call and positively assessed the process. Zelenskyy described some American proposals as worthwhile—but he was absent from the leader-level conversation in which Trump and Putin discussed the next phase. No ceasefire, territorial compromise or security agreement was announced. The sequence nevertheless creates humiliating optics for Kyiv: Zelenskyy delivered his position to Trump’s envoys, while Putin received the president’s direct call.
