Writing from his experience of growing up in post-independence Eritrea, Filmon Wolde examines how inherited accounts of history and communal grievance shape political debate. He asks whether these frameworks remain open to younger Eritreans’ experiences and argues that political protection must rest on enforceable rights and accountable power, rather than dependence on communal protectors.
