A reported Iranian missile strike in the Strait of Hormuz has raised fresh questions about a previously undisclosed U.S. military mission. According to NBC News, an Iranian anti-ship cruise missile struck a commercial vessel carrying U.S. Marines on September 14, reportedly injuring eight troops. The vessel was not identified as a U.S. Navy warship, and its identity and mission details have not been publicly disclosed. The Pentagon also did not publicly acknowledge the reported incident. The account comes amid heightened tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route where Iran and the United States continue to maintain competing military interests. If confirmed, the reported strike could offer further insight into Iran’s evolving anti-ship missile capabilities and the risks faced by U.S. forces operating in the region.
