The Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) is a member of the Helmholtz Association (HGF) and funded by federal and state government. AWI focuses on polar and marine research in a variety of disciplines such as biology, oceanography, geology, geochemistry and geophysics thus allowing multidisciplinary approaches to scientific goals.

Background
The AWI section Polar Terrestrial Environmental Systems investigates present and past terrestrial ecosystems. A key part of this work is the use of paleo-proxy data to reconstruct past landscapes at large spatial scales, helping us better understand past climate-vegetation interactions and future environmental change.
Your Tasks
You will support the application of a pollen-based land-cover reconstruction method to the Northern Hemisphere. The method already exists and will be expanded to a larger geographic area. Your tasks will include:
