Benjamin Netanyahu has accused New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani of “tormenting his own voters” as their confrontation over Gaza and the ICC arrest warrant against the Israeli prime minister intensifies. Mamdani has declared Netanyahu unwelcome in New York, described him as a war criminal and urged the US federal government to act on the warrant. After a legal review, however, the mayor acknowledged that New York City lacks independent authority to arrest Netanyahu. The Israeli leader responded by accusing Mamdani of condemning Israel while excusing Hamas and Iran—allegations the mayor denies. The ICC issued warrants for Netanyahu and former defence minister Yoav Gallant in 2024 over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel rejects the charges, while Donald Trump has promised Netanyahu will not be arrested anywhere in the United States. Watch.
