US Vice President JD Vance recalled the aftermath of the September 11 attacks during a campaign rally in Michigan, saying he remembered waiting in long lines for gasoline as prices surged because of events in a region whose countries' names he could not even pronounce at the time. Vance made the remark while reflecting on his upbringing in Ohio, the impact of overseas conflicts on working-class Americans and his decision to join the US Marine Corps. He also spoke about his military service in Iraq and criticised past US political leadership.
