Russia is expanding its nuclear energy footprint in Vietnam as President Vladimir Putin highlights a major new strategic project between the two countries. Putin said an intergovernmental agreement has been signed for the construction of a Russian-designed nuclear power plant on Vietnamese territory, calling it a “flagship” bilateral project. The plant is expected to provide large volumes of energy to Vietnamese households and businesses, while Russia and Vietnam also plan to develop a Centre for Nuclear Science and Technology. The move deepens Moscow’s strategic and energy ties with Vietnam and comes as Russia continues expanding its nuclear cooperation and influence across Asia.
