In court, the Centre defended the restriction, pointing to the existence of a Telegram channel with eighteen thousand subscribers and highlighting concerns over features like backdated edit options. Meanwhile, Telegram challenged the ban, arguing that the Centre could not use emergency powers as the situation was not an emergency, suggesting that targeted restrictions should have been used instead of a complete ban. The Centre argued that Telegram's architectural design facilitates illegal activities.
